Vintage Thingie Thursday

It's Vintage Thingie Thursday time again and I have some old advertising giveaways to share with you. Years ago retailers would offer items to their customers in appreciation of their patronage. Here are a few from my collection.

This tin cup with moveable handle still has its original box.

It comes from Woody's Drug Store in Duquesne, PA where you can get Pure Drugs-Fair Prices-and Good Service.

These little Esso pumps are salt and pepper shakers.

They were a freebie from West End Esso Station in Hopewell, VA.

This lovely lady came from Carver's Bakery in Boyertown, PA.

This is one of my favorites. I love the colors and the beautiful poppy on this plate. It comes from Bryant's Shoes in Petersburg, VA. It says "Bryant's Shoes are better. Once used, always used."

For more vintage collectibles go visit Suzanne's blog, ColoradoLady, by clicking on the VTT button on my sidebar. There you will find a list and links to other like-minded collectors.

You have such a good collection of advertising thingies...love the salt and pepper shakers. Way back then they sure gave out much better things than they do today.

I am totally in love with the Esso S&P set! Some places around here do little lagniappe at Christmas time, but nothing as nice as these. Usually calendars, rulers, measuring cups.
I'm giving away books to 8 winners, so check it out if you like to read!

What a wonderful collection of store giveaways. You have some real treasures there. I wish they still did that. But times changes everything.

I like the plate, too. It's gorgeous. Odd to see an ad for shoes on it:)

What wonderful advertising thingies. I so wish we could buy a box of soap and get a little plate or cup, or glass for that matter. It is too bad that someone in today's market does not try and bring that aspect back...can you just imagine the sales...only problem with that would be they would mass produce and no one would be interested in it in the future. I enjoyed this post, the plate with the poppies is amazing.
Have a great VTT!

I love the way they worded things back then. I guess you would want your drugs to be pure! Those S&P shakers are so cute. I remember there being a gas station that had giveaways, like drinking glasses. I remember being pretty excited when we would go there!
Happy VTT!

Gosh, remember when shoes were extremely expensive? That lovely platter would make it a bit easier to fork over the cash for a pair of shoes...

I loved your post. If I had to choose a favorite..it would be that little cup and the Esso salt and peppers, but they're all just wonderful. Happy VTT..have a wonderful weekend.
p.s. Now I must go look at more of your blog...specially your tags. I'm just getting interested in tags and yours are beautiful.
