Treasure Tuesday

Since yesterday was Columbus Day, I thought I would share this medallion with you. It was made for the World's Columbian Exposition (World's Fair) held in Chicago in 1893. Its purpose was to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Christopher Columbus to the New World. It was manufactured for the White Sewing Machine Company. It measures 3 inches in diameter.
As you can see, the face of the medallion shows some damage but I thought it was a good buy for only 50 cents.

How neat! I love the color and patina on this medallion. You could scan/photo this and use it in your artwork.

Sarah this is a real treasure, what a find! I adore the patina that age has gracefully produced on it. Thank you so much for sharing and I hope you had a fab day yesterday!

Coming from Chicago, I especially like this treasure, Sarah. So many of our museums here and our now football field are buildings that were built for that exposition.
