Treasure Tuesday

From my library

Hill's Manual of Social and Business Forms:

A Guide to Correct Writing
Copyright 1875

This book contains everything you need to know about social, legal and business writing as well as important (and useful) facts for reference ie: table of wages (starting at $1.00 per week), number of seeds in a bushel (clover 16,400,960), and periods of digestion (mutton-fresh-roasted 3 hrs. 15 min.). There is also a chapter on tomb stone inscriptions and epitaphs!

Take a look at the beautiful illustrations and flourishes.

And what book is not complete without instructions and guidelines on those love letters.

And a handy postage chart. Even this page is beautifully decorated.

This is one of those books that you could spend hours with in your favorite reading nook and always find some new and interesting tidbit of information. Wish you could see it for yourself.

Sarah, that book sounds like a wonderful treasure trove. I'd love to spend hours going through it, and I know you are doing just that. When I got married over 50 years ago, I received as wedding gifts 2 different etiquette books. One was a general usage book. The other one was specifically for wives of naval officers. Even those books sound antiquated now.
